Orthopedic Seat Cushions: Your Back’s Best Friend

And studies say that the average adult in the US spends around 6 hours sitting, with teenagers sitting up to 8 hours of their day.

While back in the day our ancestors would spend the day walking, running, or standing on their feet to gather berries and grains, nowadays most of us spend a great deal of our time sitting. This, of course, can cause havoc in our bodies and a whole array of health issues: not only back, neck, and shoulder pain but also headaches, bad posture, constipation, or issues such as slowed down metabolism. In fact, if postural issues get bad enough, they can become permanent and require surgery to fix!

Nip It In The Bud: Use Orthopedic Seats

While it is not always possible for everybody to stand up more often, we would recommend you keep your daily routine as healthy as possible: try to exercise at least 30 minutes a day, eat healthy, stay hydrated and keep a good posture when you sit. Orthopedic seat cushions are an excellent way to keep your spine straight and your posture correct while you sit, but a lot of people shy away from using one due to the many misconceptions surrounding them.

Clearing Up The Misconceptions Around Orthopedic Seat Cushions

Almost everyone has heard of orthopedic bench cushions and what they do: they help diminish back and neck pain by keeping your spine straight and forcing you to have a good posture. However, a lot of people don’t use them because they associate them with old age, hemorrhoids, or people suffering from bone aches.

Orthopedic Bench Cushion: Only For Old Age?

This is a misconception: everybody could benefit from orthopedic cushions, even if you do not suffer from back pain! These cushions take away pressure from your joints and spine, which does not only help you keep a good posture but also helps prevent illnesses such as slipped or pinched discs, joint inflammation, or muscular issues.

People that spend many hours a day sitting, such as lorry drivers or people that work in an office, could definitely benefit from using an orthopedic cushion or seat!

Outdoor Cushions: Are They A Thing?

Another misconception is that orthopedic cushions can only be used indoors, or when sitting on a chair. Nothing is further away from reality: they can be used anywhere, indoors or outdoors, and there are even special floor cushions made to sit on the floor if you’d prefer. These are excellent for yoga classes, for example, or to sit in your backyard for a picnic.

While this type of cushion can be used anywhere, there are also special outdoor cushions with a moisture-proof coating that will prevent them from becoming dirty or moist if you use them on the outside!

All In All:

Orthopedic cushions can be beneficial for just about anyone, and they are especially important for those of us that sit for hours on end. Do you have any questions about them? Are you wondering if they might be the right choice for you? Don’t know how to choose one? Leave us a comment and we will be happy to help you!
